Each of the schools has access to art funds which allow local artists to provide direct instruction to students. For example,
Chic Lotz provides instruction in clay and ceramics. The Art Docent Program (K-6) is active throughout the
district, with parent volunteers providing art appreciation and art history activities and lessons for our
students on a regular basis. Each of the classroom teachers integrates art activities across the
curriculum and has received professional development to assist them. At the 7th/8th grade level, we
offer a “fine arts program” which is an elective course for students at Magnolia Intermediate School.
The school play is an annual activity for students, with the backdrops and props being created by our
students with art interests and talents. The teachers work together to achieve the products for the play.
Art displays can be seen throughout the district.

The overall emphasis of the Theater Arts (Drama) class is on developing performance skills through the use of drama games, monologues, listening skills, improvisations, and reader’s theater. Our budding artists also experience writing, directing and producing a movie. Students will culminate the year with a full-scale production with both school assembly and evening performances. This class is open to 7th and 8th graders by audition only.
